"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." - Edgar Allan Poe

String and Shadow is a puppet-theater troupe based in Olympia, WA. Using mythology from across the globe for inspiration, as well as the works of beloved authors, thinkers, and friends, their stories and puppets seek to encourage communities to enter dream-states together in the analogue world. String and Shadow is deeply dedicated to the importance of play, imagination, and childlike wonder, and believe these states have the power to bring us closer to understanding ourselves, our children, and our communities. String and Shadow's style of puppetry includes mask, marionette, shadow, and rod puppets. Our materials are generally sourced from recycle-stores, construction dumpsters, newspaper stands, free piles, and, occasionally, the hardware store. Each production is made possible by the amazing dedication of our volunteers, willingness of our audience, and generosity of our community. Plus a lot of hard-work and papermaché.
