Tom Fleming (b.1982) is an artist from London, England. In this solo exhibition he presents a new series of paintings alongside a range of ‘cut-outs’ - compositions created from layers of colored card - which have been the dominant feature of his practice for the past four years. These works all explore the relationship between light and color within an abstract geometric format primarily focused on the square. In several pieces the illusion of projected light - achieved through a tonal shift in color - imposes a secondary geometric form, creating a tension between two states whilst maintaining a harmonious whole. In the ongoing Construction series, non-perspectival compositions suggest labyrinthine architectures or objects, the physical depth of the cut card competing with and contradicting our perception of pictorial space.

The artist received his MA in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2006. From 2002-15, Tom sustained a multi-disciplinary practice with fellow artist Edwin Pennicott, as the collaborative duo Pennicott+Fleming. Recent exhibitions include Wax/Wane, Con Artist Collective, NY (2018), Paperworks, b.j.spoke gallery, Huntingdon, NY (2017), and Urban Geometries, El Patio de mi Casa, Harlem, NY (2017). Tom has been a member of Con Artist Collective since 2015. The artist lives and works in New York City.
