Art inhabits the space in between subjects: it embodies a reflection of the past, a creation of the future, a movement towards both order and disorder within itself. This exhibition deals primarily with the ways contradiction, absurdity, and conflict inspire the artist to create work that is investigational, divisive and explorational.

Thirteen artists were asked to consider three contradictions: art as rejuvenator and self-destructor, art as both dependent and independent upon consumerism, and art as both a heightening and an obfuscating agent in trying to perceive reality. The resultant showcase: a variety of work in a range of mediums, all speaking to common paradoxes of the artistic practice.

Problematic was curated by Sessa Englund, a multi dimensional artist (solo shows include Incomplete Response @Con Artist, Solo Solo-Solo @Roten 2 [Gothenburg], You Missed It @Grace Exhibition Space [NYC], and Flowers of Habit @The School of Art+Design [Purchase]).

Artists involved: Laura Tack, Ko Irkt, Michael Sharp, Miranda Nichols, Olivia Fox, Charles Allen, Chris Simon, Cody Oyama, Saroj Patel, Matsumoto Sanpo, Natania Frydman, Shaina Yang and Eric Steginsky.
