The Animal in Man removes the long cultivated separation between ourselves and animals. Sarah Wang provokes - in order to inspire compassion for all living things, humans and animals alike. Terms like ‘bitch’ and ‘pussy’ compound the degradation of women with that of animals. Hybrid creatures born of these “bad” words confront and undermine these misogynistic metaphors. Highlighting the absurd horror of the fur trade, humans are adorned by those usually hunted. Other works depict humans physically blended with their spirit animals, working to recall a connection amidst all our man-made constructs in this unnatural environment we’ve created for ourselves.
